The Equators formed in 1977 and quickly gained traction with their ground breaking electric, soulful ska sound, which inspired bands such as the Beat. They signed to Stiff records where they worked with the likes of Desmond Dekker and the Pioneers. Most notably they charted in Europe with the Eddy Grant written 'Baby come back' in 1980 and this was followed by their 1981 album 'Hot' After this success and two world tours, they disbanded for multiple reasons, which the brothers will happily talk to you about.
They formed again in 2016, bringing new members into the band performing and releasing a few singles along the way. More recently the band have supported The Selecter on their Manchester date and final tour date in Coventry and held an intimate event with us for the release of the 'Hippopotamus' video. There is a planned project for 2024 along with more shows in the pipeline. The Equators turn up as a 9 piece band, guaranteed to create a lively, feel good atmosphere.
